Our boy has been with us for 2/12ths of a year (or so) now, and he continues to keep our lives interesting.
This past weekend, we went to the wedding of our friends Dana & Jamie in Sudbury, and had a great time. For once, I had a reason to dance other than putting Leo to sleep! I held him while we boogied, not too close to the P.A. speakers so his hearing wasn’t at risk. He went to sleep within a minute.
Friends of ours who were also there had a chicken pox scare with their own 8-month-old son, finding out from a relative just before the wedding that he had been exposed. This was particularly frightening for the father, who hasn’t had it yet. While unpleasant to get it as a child, it’s actually serious to catch it as an adult.
Leo himself had been held close to the boy (and had probably put his sock in his mouth) the evening before, so Claire and I got scared for him. We’ve both had chicken pox as kids, but Leo’s still rather young to be catching a virus like that.
Anyway, it turned out that our friends’ son didn’t seem to have it after all, or he had had such a mild case of it that it was gone by Sunday. We’ll stay in touch with our friends in the next few days to keep informed about their condition. We’ll also call Leo’s doc to ask about his potential exposure, but we’re far less worried than we were.
