At first, I couldn’t decide whether to categorize the new FileMaker version under “cool” or “sucks”. I opted for “cool”. I like FileMaker Pro, but the real reason is I’ve posted mostly negative rants so far, and I don’t want to seem like a curmudgeon. I’m glad they’ve finally gone to an approach where all tables in a relational database are actually in the same file. This should make scripting easier. On the other hand, I’m still disappointed by their silly licensing scheme that puts most development features into the cheapest version, which isn’t really that cheap. Most corporate users will have one or two people who actually build stuff with it, whereas everyone else will just be an end user. Come on, guys, clue in. You’ll sell more licenses to more companies if you have a $100 “client-only” version.
