Well, our little guy is pretty much acting normally now, except we can’t seem to get him to sleep anymore. He seems to fall asleep in our arms, but he’s screaming the second he touches his crib. Crying seems to make his nose stuff up now, too, so he doesn’t “cry it out”. He just whips himself into this frenzy of rage and sniffles instead of getting tired and quieting down on his own. The pacifier that used to work wonders is now instantly shot out of Leo’s 160-decibel noise cannon.

I’ve had about 10 hours of sleep over the last three nights, and Claire’s getting only slightly more. Beta’s taken to sleeping with her paws over her head. When Leo is finally quiet, I’m so wound up and stressed from his earlier shrieks that I’m only starting to doze off when he cranks it up again. We’re afraid to use some of our earlier methods for managing his sleeplessness, such as swaddling (lest he overheat) and closing his door (lest we not hear him if he’s in trouble again).

Don’t get me wrong: it’s great that he’s found all his prior vigor and alertness. We’re so thankful. We just can’t wait to get a good night’s sleep again soon.
